Critique of “Selfie” Part 1

I don’t know why I expected anything more from this new show Selfie, I mean it is based off a play which was made into a movie whose plot is that of an old man rescuing a young girl from herself and teaching her how to act like a presentable human, but I had a bit of…

I knew it was going to be problematic as soon as I saw the commercials. Not surprised considering this is the same actress that played Amelia pond, who had a low Belchdel score http://rebeccaamoore.com/2014/05/29/university-study-on-sexism-in-bbcs-doctor-who-infographic/. So Amy would approve. Cho is in the toughest predicament due to Hollywhites refusal to hire Asian men for better roles. They can only play the martial arts dude or the smart stereotype. I wonder if his character on the show fits one of these.

The show that broke all stereotypes:

Suite Life of Zach and Cody

  • Asian girl was stupid
  • Blonde girl was smart
  • Black guy had a formal job
  • White guy was a goofy plumber
  • Fat kid gets the girls
